Speciality Registrar - Fixed Term (StR FT)

This post offers a wide range of experience and training opportunities related to pre-operative assessment (POA) and peri-operative medicine (POM). This includes regular experience of cardio-pulmonary exercise testing (CPET) with the aim becoming independently proficient by the end of the 12 month tenure.

The role will combine working alongside and supporting consultant anaesthetists within theatre and the cardiac and general intensive care units along with providing an on-call anaesthetic service on a full shift basis on an EWTD compliant rota. You will be supported to undertake appropriate solo theatre lists depending on experience and training requirements.The breadth of surgical specialties on-site means we can tailor the nature this of clinical experience to the successful candidate’s particular interests and training requirements.

You will be able to attend and contribute to the dedicated pre-operative assessment services the anaesthetic dept. provides to support a number of surgical specialities (including vascular, gynae oncology and eye surgery). There will be opportunities to attend and contribute to ortho-geriatrician liaison ward rounds.

You will be expected to contribute to existing research projects such as PRISM, PQIP and BALANCED as well as existing Quality Improvement work in perioperative medicine. Fellows will be supported and encouraged to develop new projects in this field. The post holder will also be expected to contribute to teaching and training in a variety of settings to both medical staff and students.

Finally, as this is a new post, the successful candidates will have the opportunity to shape and define the nature of this post for future applicants.
