From 1st October 2017, Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT) and the University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust (UHSM) has joined together to create a new Foundation Trust which has been named Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. 

Our new organisation will provide a single hospital service across the city of Manchester and in 12- 18 months will also include the services currently provided by North Manchester General Hospital.  These changes will make a real difference to the health outcomes and quality of life for the people of Manchester.  That’s why this really is an extremely exciting and challenging period in the delivery of health and social care in Greater Manchester and one that provides a wealth career opportunities for great people right across our Group. 

This is an exciting and unique opportunity to spend a year as Research and Clinical Fellow in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Intensive Care at the Manchester Royal Infirmary. The post will allow you to become involved in all aspects of research including the development of new research proposals, from the inception of an idea, conducting a literature search, writing a protocol and submitting ethics and grant applications. There are also on-going projects in which you will be involved. There is also the opportunity to present, write up and publish projects. You will be expected to attend courses on which you will learn the fundamentals of research methodology as well as systematic review and meta-analysis.

This is a perfect opportunity to gain skills in cardiac critical care, transoesophageal echocardiography and research. This job may be ideal for advanced trainees in critical care medicine who have an anaesthetic background. The Clinical duties of the post include anaesthetic on-call services on a 1 in 8 rota along with opportunities for daytime service and training. The successful candidate will be placed on an appropriate anaesthetic on-call rota (either at TGH or CMFT) and will be educationally supervised by a Consultant Anaesthetist with a Masters in Medical Education.

You will work in accordance with the GMC Good Medical Practice Guide and Trust.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

The postholder will have regular contact with vulnerable people and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
