From 1st October 2017, Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT) and the University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust (UHSM) has joined together to create a new Foundation Trust which has been named Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. 

Our new organisation will provide a single hospital service across the city of Manchester and in 12- 18 months will also include the services currently provided by North Manchester General Hospital.  These changes will make a real difference to the health outcomes and quality of life for the people of Manchester.  That’s why this really is an extremely exciting and challenging period in the delivery of health and social care in Greater Manchester and one that provides a wealth career opportunities for great people right across our Group. 

Applications are invited for the above fixed term post at Saint Mary's Hospital, Manchester.

The post is aimed at a highly skilled and motivated applicant and offers the opportunity to undertake clinical research while maintaining clinical practice. The post is 60% research and 40% clinical. The successful applicant will be expected to register for a higher degree with the University of Manchester, either an MPhil undertaken over 2 years or and MD over 3 years. The post is suitable for trainees wishing to apply to undertake a period out of programme (research) pending approval from the responsible Postgraduate Dean. The post is a fixed term appointment of one year extendable to up to 3 years depending on adequate academic progress.

Four research projects are available: in the areas of Gynecological Oncology, Urogynaecology, Reproductive medicine and Obstetrics. The successful candidate will express preference for which project they undertake.

In addition to the research component there are clinical opportunities available in the applicant's chosen field, together with general Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Saint Mary’s Hospital for Women and Children was founded over 200 years ago and relocated to a new purpose built, state of the art facility in 2009. Saint Mary’s Hospital is the tertiary referral hospital for the NW region. In addition to Obstetrics and Gynaecology, St Mary's provides specialist Neonatalogy and Clinical Genetics services. The University of Manchester is situated within walking distance of the Trust and the Medical School is directly adjacent to the Trust.

Applicants must be registered with the GMC and completed at least ST3 level training (or equivalent). Possession of the MRCOG (or equivalent qualification) is desirable.

Salary will be on the Specialty Registrar payscale currently £31,931 - £48,123 per annum.
