Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT) and the University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust (UHSM) will join together to create a new Foundation Trust in October 2017 which will be named Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust; subject to required approvals.   Following this, the plan is for North Manchester General Hospital (which is currently part of The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust) to join the new organisation around 12-18 months later.

As a result of this plan, it’s such an extremely exciting and challenging period in the delivery of health and social care in Greater Manchester and one that provides a wealth of opportunity. Our new organisation will provide a single hospital service across the city of Manchester and in 12- 18 months will also include the services currently provided by North Manchester General Hospital.  These changes will make a real difference to the health outcomes and quality of life for the people of Manchester.

The Manchester Royal Eye Hospital (MREH) is the 4th oldest working eye hospital in the world and one of the largest in Europe. MREH provides care to over 6 million people and is housed in a new state of the art facility equipped with the latest diagnostic and surgical facilities.

Applications are invited for a 12 month fixed term post (renewable long term) for specialty doctor with a specialist interest in medical retina in the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital; the largest provincial ophthalmic unit in the UK.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Specialty Doctor to assist with the day-to-day running of our busy medical retina service. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a medical retina centre of excellence, in one of the only two dedicated Eye Hospitals in the UK, with a track record of excellence in clinical quality and innovation. All treatment options and medical retina disease indications are treated. The service is backed up by all the latest diagnostics including fluorescein/ICG angiography, widefield imaging and OCT angiography. All types of retinal laser including multispot lasers are in use in the department. You will be rewarded with an excellent professional and personal experience with support for continued professional development.

The successful applicant will join and complement the existing team in this subspecialty area. Applicants should have Membership of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists or equivalent and experience in a medical retina service.
