Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) is one of the largest acute Trusts in the UK, employing over 20,000 staff.

We are responsible for running a family of nine hospitals across six separate sites, providing a wide range of services from comprehensive local general hospital care through to highly specialised regional and national services.

We are the main provider of hospital care to approximately 750,000 people in Manchester and Trafford and the single biggest provider of specialised services in the North West of England. We are also the lead provider for a significant number of specialised services including Breast Care, Vascular, Cardiac, Respiratory, Urology, Cancer, Paediatrics, Women’s Services, Ophthalmology and Genomic Medicine.

Our vision is to improve the health and quality of life of our diverse population by building an organisation that:

  • Excels in quality, safety, patient experience, research, innovation and teaching
  • Attracts, develops and retains great people
  • Is recognised internationally as a leading healthcare provider

Enthusiastic and experienced candidates are invited to apply for Senior Clinical Fellow roles within the Department of Cardiac Surgery at Manchester Royal Infirmary.

The department undertakes all aspects of adult Cardiac Surgery except transplantation. There is no thoracic component. The Senior Fellow posts contribute to a 1:8 on call rota.

Applicants for the Senior Clinical Fellow roles must have a minimum of 2 years’ full time (or equivalent part time) hospital service in the ST1/2 grade or higher, MRCS and 1 or more years’ experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery. These roles offer a significant opportunity to further your experience in Cardiac Surgery, whether you are looking to gain a training number, or develop surgical and patient management skills that will stand you in a good position for other fellowships in the UK or abroad.

These roles offer a wide variety of experiences, from the operating theatre and outpatient clinics, to the management of patients in Level 2 and Level 3 intensive care settings. Support is on hand from a group of experienced consultants, staff grade doctors, advanced nurse practitioner, surgical care practitioners as well as other clinical fellows and doctors in training. The department is anticipating completing 700-800 open heart operations in 2018/19 and the potential opportunities of a Single Hospital Service in the City of Manchester are plenty for a motivated individual. It is an exciting time to be joining the department.

Please note that this post does not have educational approval from the Postgraduate Dean, but the successful candidates would have a named consultant supervisor and would be encouraged to further their academic, training and career aspirations.

Applicants from the across the UK, EU and further afield are encouraged.
