Are you a qualified Child Psychotherapist who’s able to think in a psychoanalytic and systemic way regarding clinical work, teams, and organisations? Is working with complex agendas as part of a major training organisation second nature to you?  Do you have the creativity and flexibility it takes to provide clinical services to the Looked After population. (LAC)?  Then read on.

The Trust’s Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) Directorate’s well established and respected Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy (CAPT) Service is the largest of its kind in the North West. We are well resourced and CAPTs have been part of our workforce for more than 12 years.  There are very strong structural links between CAMHS and the Northern School of Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy (NSCAP) too.

A qualified member of the Association of Child Psychotherapists, with some post-qualification experience, you are used to communicating with other professionals in a multi-agency context. Substantial experience of clinical work with Looked After Children and their associated networks is also important, as is experience gained as a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist providing training and/or clinical supervision/consultation to other professionals.  A significant part of this post is providing support and service supervision to clinical trainees in CAPT. Comfortable using your initiative and able to think creatively within defined team and management structures, we will also be looking for Doctoral level (or equivalent) knowledge of child and adolescent psychotherapy, psychoanalytic models of child and family development, and psychopathology.  A current driving licence and access to a car are also prerequisite for this role.

MFT are forward looking and proactive organisations whose contexts will provide many opportunities for CPD. The post is well established (in a slightly different form and banding) and permanent, plus there are good possibilities for professional development and to make a contribution to the development of services within this complex but rewarding role.
