The role will be pivotal in developing the Trust and Estates Department for the future in a Trust that has a culture of supportive friendly teams, that are passionate about patient care, and provides excellent professional NHS job development opportunities. The Manchester University Foundation NHS Trust operates a number of sites across central and south Manchester and this post will be responsible for delivery of estates services at Wythenshawe, Trafford, Withington and Altrincham.

The Trust's aim is always to put patients at the heart of everything we do and is guided by the principles and Trust values developed by our staff. In line with this vision, the Estates Directorate are seeking a highly committed, experienced and professional engineering manager to join our team. This key appointment will play a pivotal role in helping to shape and develop the Trust's estates asset management programme and maintenance and repair service, and will have managerial, professional and technical responsibility for the operational estates services, which are delivered across all of the Trust premises.

The successful candidate will take the lead and develop the Estates maintenance teams at Trafford, Withington and Altrincham Hospital sites and will lead on the Trust’s management of the delivery of hard FM services via a PFI contract at the Wythenshawe site. They will also Lead on the management of the Trust's 'Hard FM' infrastructure and the wider Estates function, in order to provide a high quality, compliant, proactive and responsive maintenance and repair service for the Trust ensuring the healthcare environment, including all buildings, engineering systems and grounds are safe, compliant within all relevant legislation and healthcare guidance, well maintained within the agreed budget, fit for purpose, available for their intended use, and provide the best possible patient experience.

As a strong people manager and someone who continually seeks improvement, you will be passionate about the provision of high quality facilities for our patients and staff and be committed to our values with the ability to inspire, motivate and empower those around you, with a positive can-do attitude. Able to demonstrate flexibility and initiative when dealing with a wide range of engineering/building services, you will also provide team leadership and co-ordination to achieve a high standard of productivity and workmanship, delivering the operational estates services in the most cost effective manner.

In addition with suitable training and support you will act as the lead Authorised/Responsible Person for a number of specialised building and engineering services, such as Water, Ventilation and Electrical Systems, together with Asbestos Management. Applicants should possess professional knowledge acquired through a degree, or equivalent plus specialist knowledge gained through post-graduate courses, and has experience to Masters equivalent level in a building services/engineering related discipline. This will be supplemented preferably by having worked previously in the NHS or a similar complex organisation, with evidence of management development and formal Health and Safety training.
