This is a replacement post for a Consultant Haematologist specialising in adult haemoglobinopathy and general haematology.

The Department of Clinical Haematology provides a regional tertiary referral service for Haemoglobinopathy for a large catchment area in NW England and cares for around 400 adult patients with Sickle cell and Thalassaemia as well as other rare anaemias. There are close working relationships with the paediatric haemoglobinopathy service and the Manchester Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia service.  The department has an active interest in clinical research trials in this area. The post holder would be the lead clinician for haemoglobinopathy and would also work as part of a team of consultants covering the general haematology service. Previous experience in haemoglobinopathy would be desirable but senior mentorship from the current haemoglobinopathy consultant for the initial 12 months of the post is envisaged.

This is a 10PA job plan. Any Consultant who is unable for personal reasons, to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust.
