The Clinical Research Fellowship is suitable for a candidate with a medical degree and some clinical experience (desirably some prior clinical experience in ophthalmology) and an interest in clinical research. It is suitable for someone who wishes to pursue a career in ophthalmology, and will allow some clinical experience particularly in retinal and paediatric ophthalmology and also research experience. The fellow will gain experience of working in a multidisciplinary environment through close liaison with Clinicians, optometrists, the imaging department and the research department.

The post will be half time research, and this time will be spent planning, recruiting patients and taking consent, carrying out imaging and organising investigation of patients, collecting and analysing data, meeting with supervisors, writing manuscripts. The main clinical duties of this post will involve attendance at ophthalmology outpatient clinics.

To be considered, you’ll need full registration and a licence to practice with the GMC. We’ll also be looking for excellent team working and communication skills and a well-organised approach.

Please note that this post does not have educational approval from the Postgraduate Dean, but training will be provided in the same way as for other trainees at the same level.
