Royal Manchester Childrens Hospital

CLINICAL FELLOW  (ST4+)  HAEMATOLOGY AND SOLID TUMOUR ONCOLOGY

Salary will be on the StR Pay Scale £31,217 - £49,086

Six months fixed term contract

An opportunity has arisen to join the Paediatric Haematology and Oncology Medical team at The Royal Manchester Childrens’ Hospital.

The Paediatric Haematology and Oncology Unit currently has 28 beds within a purpose built dedicated unit with state of the art facilities. The department is a regional centre for all paediatric haematological and solid tumour cancers and is also a paediatric immunology and haematology treatment centre. The Unit has an increasing interest in the novel therapies of paediatric cancer, including gene and cell therapies.  The post holder will receive training in all aspects of haematology (malignant and non-malignant diseases) and solid tumour oncology and will suit a paediatrician or paediatric haematologist/oncologist who wishes to specialise in this area of medicine. There will be the expectation that the post-holder will contribute to the academic life of our department since we publish many clinical and pre-clinical papers.

The NW Regional Blood and Marrow Stem Cell Transplant Unit  currently has 7 beds within a purpose built dedicated unit with state of the art facilities but this post is part of an expansion of our work, including nurses and 4 more beds, with increasing allogeneic transplant activity. The department has been JACIE accredited since 2009.

The department is a regional transplant centre for all transplants including malignant and non-haematological disease but is also a national and international referral centre for metabolic illness. The Unit has an increasing interest in the gene therapies of paediatric illness (we treat ALL patients with CAR-T cells, and will treat metabolic children with stem cell gene therapy in 2017). The post holder will receive training in all aspects of BMT and will suit a paediatrician or paediatric haematologist who wishes to specialise in this area of medicine. There will be the expectation that the post-holder will contribute to the academic life of our department since our BMT Unit publishes many clinical and pre-clinical papers.

This is an exciting time to join this team as the service grows with additional capacity being implemented. For further information please contact: Professor Robert Wynn, Consultant Paediatric Haematologist and BMT Programme Director and CSU3 Clinical Lead via email to  robert.wynn@cmft.nhs.uk or 0161 701 8474.
