From 1st October 2017, Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT) and the University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust (UHSM) has joined together to create a new Foundation Trust which has been named Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.

Our new organisation will provide a single hospital service across the city of Manchester and in 12- 18 months will also include the services currently provided by North Manchester General Hospital.  These changes will make a real difference to the health outcomes and quality of life for the people of Manchester.  That’s why this really is an extremely exciting and challenging period in the delivery of health and social care in Greater Manchester and one that provides a wealth career opportunities for great people right across our Group.

This is an innovative preceptorship programme between Manchester Foundation Trust and Primary Care Manchester.

We are inviting applications from newly qualified Physician Associates to enter into a 12-month preceptorship whereby you can:

  • Shape and influence the Physician Associate role within primary care
  • Work with newly developing Neighbourhood Teams, developing a new way of working
  • Receive additional support, education and supervision as part of a preceptorship programme to consolidate your Physician Associate skills and knowledge

The post holders will be based in the practice and once established have the opportunity to work across the neighbourhood, promoting their role and understanding how general practice at scale works. A key facet of this role will be multidisciplinary working within a team of pharmacists, advanced nurse practitioners, general practitioners and link workers.

We are currently developing an optional Masters module to the university to complement time spent in General Practice. There will be allocated sessions on a weekly basis for personal study, hospital based CPD and quality improvement/tutorials. The preceptorship programme will be evaluated and this will lead to opportunities to be involved in evaluative and promotional work.

Applicants will be required to register on the Faculty of Physician Associates (FPA) Managed Voluntary Register (FPMVR) before commencement of employment. Additionally they must hold, or will do so on completion, a PG Diploma in Physician Associate Studies from a recognised University and have passed the UK Physician Associate National Exam, or equivalent for internationally trained applicants.

As the Physician Associate role is relatively new to GP practices in Manchester, it is anticipated that the successful candidates will help to develop the role to support the high delivery of care within their specialty and beyond.

There are 4 posts available and full time and part time will be considered.
