The North West Ventilation Unit provides a dedicated multi-disciplinary 7 day service, with our in-patient facilities to meet the needs of our patients requiring both non-invasive and tracheostomy invasive ventilation to a bespoke unit. We are currently recruiting nursing staff to the North West Ventilation Unit (NWVU). The service is staffed with a full MDT and includes medical and nursing teams, specialist allied Health Professionals, respiratory physiologists and administrative and support teams. With 1600 patients currently within the service we are one of the largest specialist ventilation services in the UK.

The NWVU is a 12-bedded Ventilation unit, accommodating 10 beds for elective and emergency admissions requiring non-invasive ventilation. We care for a variety of chronic respiratory and neurological and neuromuscular conditions such as COPD, Obesity, chest wall disease, MND, Duchenne muscular dystrophy and myotonic dystrophy. In addition we have 2 beds with capacity for further expansion for patients weaning from invasive ventilation, those requiring long term tracheostomy ventilation and transition from paediatric ventilation services. We have a very diverse patient group including rare neuromuscular and metabolic conditions and strong links with Greater Manchester Neurology, MND and metabolic services. Our consultants work within Respiratory Medicine, Acute Medicine and Critical Care.

There will be exciting opportunities for individuals with critical care skills or those wishing to develop these skills within the weaning service and transition from an acute critical care environment to our dedicated weaning facility. Co-ordinated care for tracheostomy patients, weaning and paediatric transition is an area of unmet need and a great opportunity to be involved and influential in improving outcomes and the lives of this patient group and those with non-invasive ventilation. Suitable candidates will have ambitions to develop their clinical skills and management for patients requiring long term ventilatory support. We are seeking to appoint motivated, dynamic staff with an interest or background in respiratory/intensive care and/or general medicine. You must be able to demonstrate high quality compassionate care and be keen to develop professional skills such as taking blood gases, venepuncture and cannulation, tracheostomy management, to support patients who require non-invasive ventilation within level 1, level 2 and level 3 environments.

An informal visit is highly recommended.

You will also:

* Have interest/ experience in Respiratory Medicine and/or Non-Invasive & Invasive Ventilation (NIV)
