We are also the lead provider for a significant number of specialised services including Breast Care, Vascular, Cardiac, Respiratory, Urology Cancer, Paediatrics, Women’s Services, Ophthalmology and Genomic Medicine.

Our vision is to improve the health and quality of life of our diverse population by building an organisation that:

  • Excels in quality, safety, patient experience, research, innovation and teaching
  • Attracts, develops and retains great people
  • Is recognised internationally as a leading healthcare provider

Applications are invited for the above position. It is tenable for 6 months in the first instance.

The post holder will be involved in the assessment, investigation and treatment of urological patients in the outpatient department and will also assist and operate on patients within theatres alongside the consultant as well as being involved in ward rounds, supervising Foundation Doctors, seeing patients in accident and emergency and the emergency care of urological patients.

The post would suit an experienced an experienced urology trainee who wishes to gain further experience in a specific area of urology prior to applying for a consultant post. It could easily be adapted to suit a less experienced candidate who wishes to obtain urology registrar level experience prior to national selection for an ST3 post. It would also be suitable for a candidate who wishes to work towards the Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (Article 14) prior to application for a substantive consultant urological surgeon post. Such a candidate would be offered a wide variety of urological training experience at both Manchester Royal Infirmary and Wythenshawe Hospitals (if desired by the candidate), which are both part of the Manchester University NHS Trust.

Experience is gained in a wide range of core urological procedures, including cystoscopy, trus and biopsy, general urology, with exposure to specialist urology including urethral reconstructions, urodynamics and female urology, andrology, endourology including laparascopic and percutaneous surgery as well as urological oncology. The on-call commitment for this post is a 1:6 on-call (ST3+ level) with prospective cover.

This post does not carry Deanery educational and training approval; however the trust has recently developed an education and training contract, which outlines the trust’s commitment to each junior doctor. There will be educational supervision, an agreed learning plan and appropriate support. The role is expected to suit fully registered doctors seeking urological experience either prior to entering a urological training programme or whilst preparing for exams. Enthusiastic doctors looking to enhance their portfolios will be encouraged to apply.
