Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) is a major university teaching hospital serving the population of South Manchester. It is home for a number of tertiary and regional services. Authorised as a Foundation Trust on 1 November 2006, MFT continues to develop as a major health campus at MFT and Withington Community Hospitals, and works in partnership with a number of other NHS organisations in offering services at other hospitals.

The Urology department has 7 established Urology Consultants, 4 Staff Grade/ senior clinical fellows, 3 Specialist Registrars, 1 ST1/2’s and 2 FY1 trainees. The Consultant Surgeons’ special interests cover the subspecialties of Oncology, Stones, Female and Functional Urology. There is a 26 bedded dedicated Urology Ward and on site lithotripter/Holmium laser and 24/7 nephrostomy & vascular intervention service. We are a pelvic cancer site and are also the regional site for renal cryotherapy & one of two for renal cancer IVC thrombectomy. Two separate Urology Units house the diagnostic/out-patient work including flexible cystoscopies, prostate biopsies, video urodynamics, ambulatory urodynamics and a day case theatre suite.

The post is required initially for a 12 month fixed term contract, with extension assuming satisfactory service . This post would be ideal for those who wish to expand their clinical experience in Urological Surgery. They will form part of a team and join an on call rota. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to take a leading role in education for all the Urology junior staff and medical students. MFT is a leader in education.
