From 1st October 2017, Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT) and the University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust (UHSM) has joined together to create a new Foundation Trust which has been named Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. 

Our new organisation will provide a single hospital service across the city of Manchester and in 12- 18 months will also include the services currently provided by North Manchester General Hospital.  These changes will make a real difference to the health outcomes and quality of life for the people of Manchester.  That’s why this really is an extremely exciting and challenging period in the delivery of health and social care in Greater Manchester and one that provides a wealth career opportunities for great people right across our Group.

Within the context of this devolution agenda, Manchester, Trafford and the surrounding areas provide an incredibly varied and dynamic challenge for the hospitals serving them. Working collectively under the umbrella of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MUFT), this Single Hospital Service was formed on 1st October 2017, and is the result of a merger between University Hospitals of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust (UHSM) and Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT) – making the largest Trust in England and the third largest provider of specialist Services in the NHS. Additionally, during the next eighteen months, a significant transfer of acute services from Pennine Acute Hospitals to the MRI will be completed together with the establishment of the City of Manchester’s Local care Organisation.


MUFT is a forward thinking academic science centre at the heart of Health Innovation and following recent organisational changes we are now establishing our new hospital leadership teams and seek to appoint an ambitious Director of Finance to join the Manchester Royal Infirmary Hospital – an epic role for an exceptional individual.


As the Hospital’s chief financial advisor to the hospital board, you will be joining a newly formed team, taking lead responsibility for:


  • Working alongside the Hospital Chief Executive and felllow directors to develop the Hospital’s strategy, providing a vital contribution to ensuring a robust and clear strategy, business and marketing plans are developed and implemented and consistent with the Trust’s overarching strategy and direction, NHS priorities and stakeholder requirements. You will direct negotiation and completion of agreements with partner organisations in order to develop commercial and service development opportunities for the Hospital.
  • Advising the Hospital Chief Executive and Hospital Board on the Hospital's financial management and planning to ensure compliance with statutory and contract obligations and Trust’s overarching business strategy.
  • Risk & Governance; ensuring that all regulatory and risk management requirements are satisfied and to  direct  the  development  of  systems, control processes which will establish safe and consistent  service  delivery and monitoring arrangements within the Hospital.
  • Leading your team to deliver timely and accurate presentation of financial management, contracting and other management information that drive efficient, safe and patient focussed service delivery, whilst ensuring timely adoption and execution of the actions required to deliver the financial plan and monitor financial performance targets.

Ideally you will offer experience of working at board or deputy director of finance level in a similar role and be a seasoned qualified finance professional (CCAB or CIMA).  Your experience will include time working within a provider environment, although you may have experienced working in wider parts of the NHS within your career to date.  This is an exciting, challenging and dynamic role for an ambitious finance professional keen to make an impact within a new team and outstanding NHS Foundation Trust.
