From 1st October 2017, Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT) and the University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust (UHSM) has joined together to create a new Foundation Trust which has been named Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual with a special interest in infant feeding and community development work to join our expanding Infant Feeding Team. 

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) is the leading Trust for teaching, research and specialist services in the North West of England.

Manchester Infant Feeding Team are receiving significant financial investment and will be under considerable scrutiny to deliver clear evidence based programmes of care and improved outcomes for our clients. This will include conducting evaluations and being involved in research throughout.  

Caseloads will mainly fall in North Manchester, but the role is city wide and there is a requirement to travel across the city as service need requires as well as travelling to our associated hospital sites.  Access to a car for work purposes is essential for this role. 

Developing targeted ante-natal and post-natal infant feeding initiatives the post holde is responsible for delivery and supervision along with the IFSW’s and senior Health Visitors. Working across Health Visiting teams to ensure smooth delivery of care and joined up working.  With an expectation to deliver UNICEF Baby Friendly best practice standards and maintain full accreditation for the service, the role requires training and audit skills to ensure all staff are working to our expected high standards.

As a point of contact for the IFSW’s across north Manchester, ensuring consistent service delivery and clinical competence as well as covering sickness and absence in the team, the post holder will ensure clients are seen by a clinically appropriate practitioner. Overseeing the work of the IFSW’s the post holder will ensure a rapid response for clients with urgent feeding difficulties and refer complex feeding challenges to a senior clinician within the team.

Using an electronic record, you'll support junior members of the team to ensure accurate data input and collection.  

You are is required to work flexibly and offer cover for colleagues in a variety of settings as service needs dictate.

You must be able to demonstrate:-

  • An ability to communicate with and relate to children and young people with a range of disabilities
  • An ability to work using your own initiative
  • An ability to manage your own workload under the direction and supervision of the Infant Feeding Lead
  • Community development work and infant feeding

In return we will provide a comprehensive induction programme and you will be appraised on a yearly basis with a view to developing knowledge and skills where appropriate.
