From 1st October 2017, Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT) and the University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust (UHSM) has joined together to create a new Foundation Trust which has been named Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. 

Our new organisation will provide a single hospital service across the city of Manchester and in 12- 18 months will also include the services currently provided by North Manchester General Hospital.  These changes will make a real difference to the health outcomes and quality of life for the people of Manchester.  That’s why this really is an extremely exciting and challenging period in the delivery of health and social care in Greater Manchester and one that provides a wealth career opportunities for great people right across our Group. 

Applications are invited twelve months fellowship post in Glaucoma in one of the largest provincial ophthalmic unit in the UK, commencing August 2018

Manchester Royal Eye Hospital (MREH) is a major tertiary referral centre with complex glaucoma cases being received from across the North West, from North Wales and beyond. It is also one of only a handful of centres in the UK offering a dedicated paediatric glaucoma service. MREH glaucoma unit has a National and International reputation for leading the way in adopting new glaucoma surgical techniques including MIGS and has an active clinical research portfolio in the diagnosis and management of glaucoma. We have led the way in the development of new and innovative Glaucoma Service Delivery Models, including first Glaucoma Referral Refinement Scheme in the UK, an in-house optometric led glaucoma assessment clinic, virtual clinics and Nurse-led Patient Education Clinic and the first Home-day phasing Service.

These fellowship posts offer wide clinical experience in the management of glaucoma including both complex adult and paediatric cases. The fellows will also gain insight into the service delivery of glaucoma through our innovative optometric schemes and virtual clinics. Laser and Surgical training includes SLT, Yag, Argon and diode (external and endoscopic) laser therapies, enhanced trabeculectomy, deep sclerectomy, angle surgery, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery and glaucoma drainage devices on both adult and paediatric cases.

Fellows would also participate in our current clinical trials and have opportunities to undertake research and audits.

One session per week will be devoted to general ophthalmic services and another for glaucoma research.

The appointee will work with 5 Consultant Ophthalmologists in this major referral centre.  The post receives a salary of £34,401.61 per annum  

Preference will be given to candidates who have obtained or who are within 3 months of obtaining CCT. Due to current UK employment regulation, non-EU candidates can only be considered if no suitable EU candidates are appointed.
