Our new organisation will provide a single hospital service across the city of Manchester and in 12- 18 months will also include the services currently provided by North Manchester General Hospital.  These changes will make a real difference to the health outcomes and quality of life for the people of Manchester.  That’s why this really is an extremely exciting and challenging period in the delivery of health and social care in Greater Manchester and one that provides a wealth career opportunities for great people right across our Group.

The trust would like to invite applications for 2 Fellowship posts in Medical Retina based at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, the largest provincial ophthalmic unit in the UK, to commence as soon as possible for a period of 12 months. This is an exciting opportunity to sub-specialize in Medical Retina in a large, university teaching hospital, one of the only two dedicated Eye Hospitals in the UK, with a track record of excellence in clinical quality and innovation and an active and ambitious research program.

The post holder will be involved with the Medical Retina service and specialist experience of other aspects of medical retina including inherited eye disease will also form part of the timetable. It is also expected that the post holder will be involved in the community macular clinics and delivery of Stereotactic Radiotherapy (I-Ray) for patients with neovascular AMD. The Fellow will be exposed to a range of existing research studies and will be encouraged to develop their own research interests.

Manchester Royal Eye Hospital (MREH) is at the forefront of imaging technology, including digital wide-field fluorescein and indocyanine-green angiography, enhanced-depth swept-source optical coherence tomography (OCT), anterior segment OCT and ultrasound, and OCT angiography. Recently MREH has expanded and established a network of specialist macular eye clinics in Trafford, North and South Manchester which is a pioneering undertaking to facilitate high quality, safe and patient-centred care for the local population.

A track record of interest and involvement in research is desirable. All applicants must have passed FRCOphth or equivalent. This post will be especially useful for those coming to the end of their training (Post-CCT/CESR) who plan to sub-specialise in medical retina at consultant level or those who wish to enhance their research experience.  Specific training in Consultant post skills, management and interview skills can also be arranged as required.
