From 1st October 2017, Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT) and the University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust (UHSM) has joined together to create a new Foundation Trust which has been named Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.

Our new organisation will provide a single hospital service across the city of Manchester and in 12- 18 months will also include the services currently provided by North Manchester General Hospital.  These changes will make a real difference to the health outcomes and quality of life for the people of Manchester.  That’s why this really is an extremely exciting and challenging period in the delivery of health and social care in Greater Manchester and one that provides a wealth career opportunities for great people right across our Group.

Are you a Qualified RN with experience of working in an acute care setting? Do you have the hard-working, enthusiastic and conscientious approach it takes to work in a stressful but rewarding environment? Then consider a move to the Trust’s Specialist Medicine Day Unit team (SMDU)

You spend a lot of time at work, so why not enjoy your time there? We’re a small, friendly, experienced team that work hard but genuinely enjoy what we are doing. We go out of our way to spend time with the patients and their families and hope this encourages better care. We are aware that it’s hard work but, for the right person, it’s a perfect opportunity to extend your skills within a centre of excellence for care.

Extremely busy and fast paced, the day unit is housed in a state-of-the-art new building providing care for patients who require regular or one-off treatments / investigations.

The department is renowned for its excellent standards of care underpinned by evidence-based practice.  The work within SMDU is sure to present exciting challenges and opportunities.

The role of Staff Nurse is both challenging and interesting. As well as co-coordinating the outpatient activity to ensure the service is well run and waiting times are kept to a minimum, you’ll also get involved in service improvements within the department. A great chance to develop leadership skills that are patient-centered, you’ll also be encouraged to expand and develop your knowledge, skills and competencies within a supported and friendly environment.

Whilst experience is not necessary, you must be willing to learn about the department. Integrity and vision, plus a real desire to take the service forward and expand the nursing role, are also essential. In return, there will be various training opportunities and you’ll also have a personal development plan that’s tailored to your individual needs.
