From 1st October 2017, Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT) and the University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust (UHSM) has joined together to create a new Foundation Trust which has been named Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.

Our new organisation will provide a single hospital service across the city of Manchester and in 12- 18 months will also include the services currently provided by North Manchester General Hospital.  These changes will make a real difference to the health outcomes and quality of life for the people of Manchester.  That’s why this really is an extremely exciting and challenging period in the delivery of health and social care in Greater Manchester and one that provides a wealth career opportunities for great people right across our Group.

This is a great opportunity for a pharmacist to join our well respected clinical team and work at MFT (Central & Trafford sites). Here at MFT we aim to be one of the leading Trusts in the country. In line with this, the pharmacy department aims to be a lead for clinical pharmacy, medicines management, clinical governance, and research and development.

The department is continuously seeking opportunities to further improve the pharmacy service to clinical areas. This specialist rotation is one of those. MFT has many specialist services and nationally recognised leads in these specialties. You will work within these specialties and with other rotational staff to improve our extended hour’s services in addition to the day services. The new educational programme developed with this rotation will ensure that you are highly skilled
in dealing with most of the specialist clinical services provided by MFT. This is an excellent framework for your pharmacy career.

As this is a training post you will need to demonstrate a desire to learn. You will also be asked to meet deadlines and achieve agreed objectives. As a clinical pharmacist you will be required to deal with patients and other healthcare professionals, therefore, good communication skills (written and verbal) are essential. An ability to work calmly and in an organised fashion in a busy environment is key for this post.

You will be working as part of a large team so you will need to be approachable and supportive to peers and other staff as well as demonstrate the ability to work as part of a team. You will be required to work in the different sections within the department therefore you will need to demonstrate an ability to work flexibly.

Our training programme is unique. We offer a structured rotation training programme which will take you through all of the specialities at the MFT (Central Manchester & Trafford site). Each rotation has clear aims and objectives and your training will be supported by the Clinical Lead for the speciality. Your progress as a clinical pharmacist will be supported by competency assessments. From this a personal learning plan will be formulated. You will also be supported by six monthly personal development planning sessions. Finally, facilitators will be available to support your CPD.

The department requires staff to work shifts that ensure that the continual service needs of the Trust can be met. To achieve this you will be required to work within a rotational shift pattern which will include shifts throughout the department's 24 hour / 7 day service.

For the band 6 positions you must be a registered pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council. For the band 7 positions you must be registered pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council, and have completed at least one year of the postgraduate clinical diploma.

This is an exciting time to be joining the Trust's clinical pharmacy team as we have now transitioned into the Single Hospital Service.
